Olympus OM-DE-M5 Review

The Olympus OM-DE-M5 is the new flagship Micro Four Thirds bunched arrangement camera from Olympus. The aboriginal in a cast new ambit of cameras dubbed OM-D, the E-M5 is a classically styled 16.1 megapixel archetypal that offers the world’s fastest auto-focus arrangement and the world’s aboriginal 5-axis angel stabilisation system. Other key actualization of the Olympus OM-D EM-5 cover a dust- and splash- affidavit magnesium-alloy body, 1.44-million-dot cyberbanking viewfinder, 3 inch clear OLED touchscreen, 9 frames per additional access shooting, abounding 1080p video, and a acuteness ambit of ISO 200-25600. In the UK the Olympus OM-D is accessible in argent or atramentous as a kit with the M.Zuiko DIGITAL ED 12-50mm f/3.5-6.3 lens for £1149.99, and in the US it costs $999 physique alone or $1099 with the 12-50mm lens.

Ease of Use

The fourth bearing of Olympus' mirror-less Micro Four Thirds arrangement has arrived, but this time the agenda Pen has been usurped at the top of the Olympus mirrorless agency by OM-D, a new moniker that harps aback to the Olympus OM blur cameras of yesteryear. Despite its evidently archetypal appearance, the OM-D EM-5 has some audibly avant-garde tricks up its accepted sleeve, from the super-quick auto-focusing arrangement to a able in-body angel stabilisation arrangement that works with any lens that you affliction to fit. This camera is not alone a cruise down anamnesis lane. With argent or atramentous physique choices offered, we had the closing adaptation of the E-M5 in for review, forth with the M.Zuiko DIGITAL ED 12-50mm f/3.5-6.3 kit lens.

The Olympus OM-DE-M5 is the additional Olympus bunched arrangement camera to affection blow awning operation, although if you're not a fan you can for the a lot of allotment get abroad after application it abundant at all, as there are a deluge of concrete buttons which are either committed to specific functions or can be customized to suit. Indeed, the touch-sensitive interface hasn't led to a cleaner or added pared-down minimalist look, as say the touch-screen on Panasonic's latest GF5 camera.

So, cartel we advance this is a affection implemented because it could be, rather than should be? That animadversion would be justified, perhaps, if the 3-inch 4:3 aspect arrangement awning wasn't aswell an OLED panel, as against to the common-or-garden LCD variety, with a cool ablaze 610k-dot resolution. Images attending decidedly active with affluence of adverse if beheld on the E-M5's awning and appropriately this carries over if photos are downloaded to your desktop. The rear OLED awning can be agee by a best of 80В° upwards and 50В° downwards, which helps if cutting from top and low angles, although we did absence getting able to absolutely clear the awning from larboard to appropriate as able-bodied which consistently proves advantageous if cutting video.

Dragging a finger, and so the AF point, about the awning is a quick and simple way of afterward the subject, admitting aback after taping it will could cause the bang to fire. This ability can be deactivated by prodding the accordant bang button figure on the blow screen, but it's just as simple to accidentally about-face it on again; even via an activity as alien as the button of your shirt abutting with the awning as you're cutting the E-M5 on a close strap, or the deride of your larboard duke abnormality as you handle the camera.
